Residents of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State have confirmed that United States forces carried out aerial attacks on locations believed to be hideouts of Lakurawa terrorists in the area.

A local government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the airstrikes took place late at night, between 10:00 p.m. and midnight, in Warriya and Alkasim villages.

According to the official, the targeted locations were suspected camps used by members of the Lakurawa group, which has been linked to repeated security incidents in Tangaza and surrounding communities.

Residents who spoke to security analyst Zagazola said the strikes triggered fear and tension across nearby settlements, forcing many residents to remain indoors throughout the night.

The official added that authorities were still assessing the outcome of the operation and had yet to confirm whether there were civilian casualties.

“As of now, the full impact of the airstrikes is yet to be determined. Security operatives are expected to visit the affected areas in the morning to verify the situation and establish details, including possible casualties,” he said.

There has been no official statement from Nigerian security agencies regarding the operation or confirmation of the identity of those who carried out the strikes.

Tangaza Local Government Area has recently witnessed rising security challenges, largely attributed to the activities of armed groups operating in remote and hard-to-reach locations.
