Recovery more complicated than expected — Ayra Starr reveals major surgery

Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has disclosed that she recently underwent major surgery, revealing that her recovery has proved more complicated than initially anticipated.

The 23-year-old singer shared the update in a heartfelt message posted on her Instagram Story on Thursday, apologising to her loyal fanbase, known as “Mobstarrs”, for her reduced online presence in recent days.

“I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.

Although the award-winning artiste did not reveal the nature of the procedure, her statement quickly fuelled widespread speculation across social media, with fans offering different theories while expressing concern over her health.

Despite the setback, Ayra Starr assured supporters that she is recovering steadily and only needs adequate rest before returning to work.

The Mavin Records artiste also used the opportunity to rally support for her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, urging fans to pre-order the release and spread the word to friends, relatives and neighbours.

“Starrgirl is coming so soooon,” she wrote before signing off with a message of appreciation and love to her supporters.

Her announcement attracted an outpouring of goodwill from fans, many of whom wished her a speedy recovery.

One supporter, @rhodalynofficial, wrote, “Quick recovery queen.”

Another user, @iam__chulo, dismissed online speculation about cosmetic surgery, commenting, “You all didn’t think of appendix surgery? Only BBL? Daft peeps.”

Others also expressed optimism about her recovery, with @nelsonamen7 writing, “My favourite, you will come out stronger than ever,” while @frezzi202 encouraged the singer ahead of her anticipated December performances.

The health update comes weeks after Ayra Starr celebrated another career milestone, with her album The Year I Turned 21 recording more than 375 million cumulative streams across major digital platforms, further cementing her growing global appeal.
