RCCG donates $265,854 to support evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has donated $265,854 to support the evacuation and repatriation of distressed Nigerian nationals from South Africa amid recent xenophobic tensions.

The intervention, directed by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, is aimed at providing immediate relief and supporting the safe return of vulnerable Nigerians who have been affected by the situation.

The Church said the contribution reflects its commitment not only to its members but also to the wider Nigerian community living outside the country.

According to the RCCG, the humanitarian support is in line with the Church’s values of compassion, justice and social responsibility, which it said are rooted in biblical teachings.

Pastor Adeboye expressed concern over the situation facing Nigerians affected by the tensions, stressing the need to show compassion and stand with those experiencing difficult circumstances.

The Church said the donation was made in recognition of the urgency and humanitarian nature of the situation.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye recognizes the urgency and humanity of the situation and stands in solidarity with Nigerians affected by recent xenophobic tensions,” the statement said.

The funds are expected to provide immediate assistance and support arrangements for Nigerians seeking to return home safely from South Africa.

The RCCG also commended the efforts of the Federal Government towards evacuating and assisting Nigerians affected by the crisis.

“The funds are directed toward providing immediate relief and facilitating safe passage for vulnerable Nigerians seeking to return home.”

“Logistics and handling for the humanitarian intervention are being coordinated by the Central Missions Board, RCCG Region 65 and Youth Province 1, based in Lagos,” the Church stated.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the safety and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa following reports of renewed xenophobic tensions.

Nigerians in different parts of the world have continued to face various challenges, with some requiring support and intervention from both the government and private organisations during emergencies.

The Church said its involvement in the evacuation effort demonstrates the importance of collective responsibility and humanitarian support during periods of crisis.

The RCCG added that it remains committed to supporting its members across different parts of the world while also extending assistance to other Nigerians and vulnerable individuals in need.

The Church also offered prayers for peace and stability in South Africa, expressing hope that tensions would ease and that residents of the country, including foreign nationals, would be able to live and work in safety.
