Sen. Moro flags off campaign, lists 110 completed constituency projects
Senate Minority Leader, Sen Abba Moro, has flagged off his re-election campaign, highlighting legislative achievements and 110 constituency projects executed across Benue South Senatorial District.
Moro made the disclosure on Saturday in Otukpo while addressing supporters and stakeholders.
The Senate minority leader told the gathering that he sponsored 16 bills and moved 16 motions in the Senate, while also facilitating 22 additional projects captured in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
The senator said the projects executed across the nine local government areas were targeted at addressing critical needs in education, healthcare, roads, water supply and other sectors.
Moro added that the record was evidence that he had remained committed to the mandate given to him by the people of Benue South.
“I can only say that God should forgive them for their ignorance because you gave me the mandate to go out there and speak for you,” he said.
He said his responsibility as a senator was not to govern the state but to represent the interests of his constituents, make laws and facilitate development projects.
“I am not governor. I am a senator,” Moro said, stressing that comparisons between his performance and that of the state government were misplaced.
He, however, alleged that Benue South had been neglected by the state government and challenged the authorities to provide evidence of major projects executed across the senatorial district.
Moro particularly questioned the state government’s claim of providing water, saying residents still depended on commercial water tankers despite the existence of water infrastructure.
The minority leader called for the rehabilitation of major roads linking communities in Benue South, including the Utonkon-Okpoga-Ichama-Owukpa-Orokam axis.
“It is not enough to say that the government has taken giant strides. Where are the strides?
“The state government failed to provide adequate security for communities affected by attacks. Protection of lives and property should remain the government’s primary responsibility,” he said.
Moro urged the people of Benue South to unite and support leaders who would protect their interests, provide infrastructure and promote peace.
“I stand before you today to offer myself once more, to be your senator. I stand before you today to tell you that I will be your protector,” he said.
He promised to continue speaking against policies and actions he considered detrimental to the interests of the people, regardless of the personalities involved.
The immediate past governor of Benue, Chief Samuel Ortom, commended Moro for building political bridges across ethnic and political divides in the state.
Ortom said the people of Benue South could produce the next governor of the state if they remained united and built strategic relationships across political and ethnic groups.
“I want to commend Abba Moro and several other sons and daughters of Zone C for building bridges. It is something that, if we come together and agree, we can achieve,” Ortom said.
He alleged that the present administration had failed to commission significant projects in Benue South, contrasting this with projects executed during his eight years as governor.
Ortom urged political leaders and traditional institutions from Tiv and Idoma communities to work together towards achieving greater political inclusion and development.
He expressed optimism that the people of Benue would recover what he described as their “stolen mandate” in the 2023 elections through the democratic process in 2027.
Chief Michael Aondoakaa, Benue PDP governorship candidate for 2027, said he was committed to Benue South, stressing his family ties and long-standing relationship with the people.
He alleged inequitable distribution of state resources, citing audited expenditure figures, and accused the government of allocating disproportionately to certain areas.
Aondoakaa promised to prioritise peace, security and equitable development, saying government resources should serve all communities fairly and enable farmers to return safely to their farms.
Newsmen report that the high point of the event was the presentation of party flags to the three senatorial candidates, four House of Representatives candidates and 11 House of Assembly candidates from the zone by the state PDP chairman, Mr Ezekiel Adaji.
