President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, as he marked his 70th birthday on April 6, 2026.

In a State House press statement, the President described Daniel, popularly known as OGD, as a renowned engineer, accomplished entrepreneur, and seasoned politician whose life has been defined by hard work, resilience, wisdom, and courage.

Tinubu commended Daniel’s professional achievements and contributions to governance, noting that he has, over the years, carved a niche for himself through impactful service to the nation.

Reflecting on his early life, the President highlighted that Daniel was raised in a disciplined Christian home, with his father serving as a notable missionary of the Church of the Lord. According to him, this foundation instilled in him strong ethical values that have shaped his personal and professional journey.

The President also acknowledged Daniel’s entrepreneurial success, particularly his founding of Kresta Laurel, an electro-mechanical engineering firm established in 1990, which has grown into a leading company in elevator installation and maintenance in Nigeria, handling major engineering projects nationwide.

Tinubu further noted that Daniel successfully translated his private sector accomplishments into public service, especially during his tenure as governor of Ogun State between 2003 and 2011. He credited Daniel’s administration with driving industrialisation, promoting public-private partnerships, and advancing infrastructure and education.

Among his key legacies, the President highlighted the initiation of the state’s first agro-allied cargo airport and the establishment of the Tai Solarin University of Education, describing both as enduring contributions to the state’s development.

He also noted Daniel’s continued relevance in national politics, following his election in 2023 as Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District.

Recalling their longstanding relationship, Tinubu said Daniel played a pivotal role in his political journey, particularly in the lead-up to his election as governor of Lagos in 1999. He noted that Daniel worked closely with him and mobilised support, including through the Heritage Group of Yoruba professionals, to ensure electoral success and a smooth transition.

The President further praised Daniel’s political resilience, describing him as a progressive leader with deep roots in the Afenifere movement. He acknowledged Daniel’s political journey, from the Alliance for Democracy to the Peoples Democratic Party, and his eventual return to the ruling All Progressives Congress, where he remains a frontline figure.

“As Otunba clocks 70, I thank him on behalf of our teeming APC members and the entire nation for his service to Ogun State and Nigeria, and his commitment to socio-political and economic development,” the President said.

Tinubu prayed for continued good health and longevity for Daniel, expressing hope that his contributions to national development would continue to grow and endure.

On behalf of his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and the Tinubu family, the President also extended goodwill to Daniel, his wife Olufunke, and the entire Daniel family.

He concluded with warm birthday wishes, celebrating the milestone and honouring Daniel’s enduring legacy.
