NNPC backs national food bank drive

Nigeria's national oil company, NNPC Limited, has reinforced its role beyond the energy sector, stepping into the frontline of social impact with strong backing for the newly launched National Community Food Bank Trust Fund.

At a high-level ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Apr. 2, 2026, the company joined key stakeholders to inaugurate the programme's Board of Trustees, marking a strategic national push to combat food insecurity and improve nutrition for vulnerable populations.

Representing Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Executive Vice President of Business Services Sophia Mbakwe described the initiative as a defining moment in Nigeria's collective responsibility toward its most at-risk citizens. She emphasised that the programme reflects a broader commitment to inclusive development, where corporate institutions actively contribute to societal well-being.

Spearheaded by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, the National Community Food Bank Programme is designed as a sustainable intervention aimed at delivering nutritious food, strengthening grassroots nutrition systems, and restoring dignity across underserved communities.

NNPC's participation underscores a growing shift in corporate Nigeria, where energy giants are expanding their footprint into humanitarian and social development initiatives. The move not only aligns with the company's Corporate Social Responsibility mandate but also positions it as a key partner in building national resilience, food security, and long-term social stability.
