The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has revealed that it successfully rescued 189 kidnapped victims from various criminal hideouts across the country in April.
The breakthroughs, announced on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, underscore a significant surge in the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The rescue missions were part of a broader security offensive that targeted violent crime networks nationwide. Beyond the liberation of those held in captivity, police tactical and investigative units arrested 85 suspected kidnappers and 28 suspected terrorists.
The operational report for April also detailed the arrest of 62 armed robbery suspects, 51 murder suspects, and 54 cultists.
To further dismantle the infrastructure of these criminal groups, the Force recovered 140 assorted firearms and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
Conmenting, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Disu commended the resilience of the officers involved, noting that the successful rescue of nearly 200 citizens reflects the growing impact of enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to sustaining these reforms and ensuring that criminal networks are dismantled to protect the lives of Nigerians.
The Police high command urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information, stressing that the safety of the nation remains a collective responsibility between the citizenry and security agencies.
