Police neutralize 2 kidnappers, recover AK-47 rifles in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has neutralized two suspected kidnappers during a tactical operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, successfully rescuing an abducted truck driver and recovering two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of ammunition, and N2 million in cash.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi. The victim was reportedly abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, around the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.

Upon receiving the report, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intelligence-driven operation that led them to the syndicate’s hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro corridor.

A gun duel ensued, resulting in the fatal shooting of two suspects, while other gang members fled into the surrounding brush with suspected gunshot wounds.

A search of the hideout yielded two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones, and N2 million in cash believed to be ransom proceeds.

The bodies of the neutralized suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while a manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members.

Reacting, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its gallantry, operational efficiency, and commitment.

He assured residents that the Command remains dedicated to deploying actionable intelligence, sustained tactical operations, and community engagement to eliminate kidnapping rings in the state.
