The Rivers State Police Command has sealed a hotel situated at Eagle Island, on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, and arrested several employees following the death of a man in his early twenties, identified as Okorite Charles, who was lodging at the facility.

Charles reportedly died under mysterious circumstances after checking into the hotel with friends.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing, confirmed the incident in a statement released to journalists in Port Harcourt, noting that the victim was allegedly pushed from an upper floor of the facility under circumstances that are still being investigated.

According to the statement, the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

Following the incident, friends of the deceased staged a protest at the hotel premises, drawing a crowd and threatening public peace. Operatives were promptly mobilized to the scene to restore order and prevent further escalation.

The PPRO stated that the hotel staff on duty during the incident, alongside the friends who were with the victim, have been taken into custody for interrogation. Operations at the hotel remain suspended pending the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother, Mr. Obomate, alleged that medical personnel who examined Charles observed what appeared to be stab wounds on his stomach.

He added that the family suspects the victim was also struck on the neck with a blunt object. Police authorities reaffirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
