The Imo State Police Command has appealed to the public for help in locating Mr. Uchenna Victor Ekejiuba, a resident of Umuankwodu, Ihitte, in Orlu Local Government Area, after he failed to honor an official police invitation.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Department, Ekejiuba was summoned to appear before the Commissioner of Police on April 11, 2024, regarding allegations of homosexual practices.

The police noted that he failed to respond to the summons and has been unreachable since, rendering multiple attempts to contact him unsuccessful.

Consequently, authorities have turned to the general public for assistance.

The police have advised Ekejiuba to report to the nearest police formation to address the ongoing investigation. Highlighting the legal framework surrounding the case, the Command pointed out that under Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act, homosexual acts carry a maximum penalty of 14 years’ imprisonment, while Section 217 prohibits “acts of gross indecency” between males, which is punishable by up to three years in prison.

Furthermore, the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act (SSMPA) 2013 imposes a 14-year jail term for individuals entering into same-sex unions.

Residents of Imo State and the wider public have been encouraged to share any credible information concerning Ekejiuba’s whereabouts with the nearest police station, with the Command assuring absolute confidentiality for all informants.

The police reiterated their dedication to upholding public safety, transparency, and due process.
