Police detain suspected cultist, vandals, recover pistol, vehicle parts

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult member and two alleged vehicle vandals in separate operations in the Oshodi and Berger areas of the state.

In a post published via its official X handle, @rrsLagos767, on Tuesday, the RRS disclosed that its operatives apprehended a suspected cultist carrying a locally made pistol on a commercial bus in Oshodi.

The suspect was arrested around 10:00 p.m. last Wednesday at Toyota Bus Stop, following actionable intelligence. Officers also recovered two live rounds of ammunition alongside the weapon.

In a separate operation, the RRS arrested two men in the early hours of Saturday, around 4:00 a.m., while they were allegedly loading stolen vehicle parts into a Suzuki mini bus near the Otedola Bridge.

The suspects, aged 25 and 35, reportedly told officers that they had been contracted to transport six tyres, rims, and other parts from the Otedola Bridge area to Agege.

According to the RRS, the two men, along with two others still at large, were in the process of loading the items into a mini bus with registration number LSD 736 YK when officers on routine patrol intercepted and arrested them.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen parts had been removed from vehicles parked for repairs at a nearby mechanic workshop.

Mechanics at the affected workshop discovered the theft upon arriving at work on Saturday morning and were later informed by RRS officers that the stolen parts had been recovered from the suspects.

RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, assured the workshop staff that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two suspects who fled the scene during the raid.

The RRS confirmed that all suspects currently in custody are cooperating with investigators as the probe continues.
