The Nigeria Police Force has declared a 32-year-old man, Sunday Emmanuel Etim wanted in connection with an alleged same-sex offence said to have occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the police, a Magistrate Court in Ibadan issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest following an investigation into the incident.
Police said the suspect is alleged to have engaged in same-sex activity with another individual on December 3, 2023, after which he reportedly fled.
The police noted that same-sex relationships are prohibited under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, which prescribes penalties for offences under the law.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect was last seen at a hotel along Ologuneru Road in Ibadan at about 3:00 a.m. on December 3, 2023.
The police appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist in locating the suspect to report to the nearest police station.
