A 66 year old resident of Ogba, Lagos State, Onyeachonam Okafor, has reported an alleged armed invasion of his residence, during which he was reportedly assaulted and one of his sons allegedly abducted.
Okafor who reported the incident at a police station at about 10:00am on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, stated that the attack occurred at about 10:45pm the previous night at his residence on Ajayi Street, Ogba, Agege.
According to the complainant, the armed men forced their way into the residence and subjected him to physical assault, torture and threats to his life.
He alleged that he was repeatedly struck on the head during the attack, sustaining injuries, before he escaped through the back door.
Okafor told the police that the incident was allegedly connected to a longstanding dispute involving his two sons, Tobechukwu Okafor, born May 5, 1986, and Uchanna Okafor, born November 12, 1999.
He alleged that Tobechukwu had been missing since June 4, 2022, while the whereabouts of Uchanna became unknown following the latest incident.
The complainant further alleged that his family had previously come under attack in Asaba, Delta State, in circumstances he linked to the search for Tobechukwu.
According to him, armed men invaded the family residence in Asaba on June 3, 2022, allegedly assaulted him and Uchanna and searched for Tobechukwu, who was reportedly not at home at the time.
Okafor said he subsequently reported the incident at the Asaba Police headquarters on Okpanam Road, GRA Phase I, Asaba, before relocating from the area.
He further alleged that on September 30, 2022, he and Uchanna were abducted and taken to an abandoned building, where they were allegedly assaulted and injured before they managed to escape.
The 66-year-old said the previous incidents informed his decision to relocate to Lagos, where he rented the Ogba apartment in a bid to secure the safety of himself and his family.
He also alleged that his sons were active members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), claiming that disagreements involving them and other parties were connected to the attacks and alleged abductions.
Following the latest report, police operatives reportedly visited the scene and commenced efforts to establish what transpired and apprehend those responsible.
The police are also expected to investigate the alleged disappearance of the two brothers and determine whether the latest attack is connected to the previous incidents reported by their father.
No suspect had been identified or confirmed arrested as of the time of filing this report.
