Police arrest woman over attempted trafficking of three children in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40 year old woman, Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, for allegedly attempting to traffic three underage children at Diko Junction in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the suspect, who resides in Nyanya, Abuja, was apprehended around 5 p.m. on November 5, 2025, after being sighted with the children Kazeem, Ya’amadu, and Idris, aged between two and three years.

“Police operatives of Gawu-Babangida Division stationed at Diko Junction quickly moved in and arrested the suspect,” Abiodun said.
“During interrogation, she claimed she took the children from Lambata and was taking them to Abuja for care.”

He said the parents of the children have been contacted, while investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the alleged trafficking.

In a separate operation, the spokesperson revealed that police also arrested two suspects, Halilu Haggai Haruna and Maiyaki Ayuba, for conspiracy, impersonation, and robbery/extortion.

According to Abiodun, the duo, pretending to be EFCC operatives, accosted a victim around Shiroro Roundabout, Minna, on October 30, 2025, accused him of internet fraud, and forcefully took his motorcycle and ₦400,000.

“The suspects were arrested on November 2, 2025, at about 1 a.m. in their homes at Sauka Kahuta, Minna, following the use of technical intelligence,” the statement added.

The police assured that all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
