Police arrest two suspected one-chance robbers, recover stolen phones

Operatives of the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected one-chance robbers terrorising residents of Obantoko and surrounding communities in Abeokuta, recovering a stolen iPhone 12 Pro and other mobile phones allegedly stolen from victims.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were apprehended following a distress call received by the Division on Wednesday over a robbery incident involving a female victim and her two sisters.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babasẹyi, the victims had boarded a Nissan Micra taxi from Somorin area heading to NNPC Kuto when the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed route at the OLG Somorin axis, attacked the passengers and dispossessed them of their valuables before throwing them out of the vehicle.
The Police said the complainant later discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen and immediately raised an alarm.
“Upon receipt of the distress report, detectives of Obantoko Division, in collaboration with vigilant members of the public, swiftly mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while the operational vehicle escaped from the scene,” the statement said.
The Command disclosed that the prompt intervention of officers prevented angry residents from attacking the suspects.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime, while the stolen iPhone 12 Pro and other suspected stolen phones were recovered from them.
Police authorities confirmed that the recovered iPhone 12 Pro had been released to its owner on bond, while the suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigation and prosecution.
Commending the swift response of officers and the cooperation of members of the public, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
