Police arrest robbery suspect, launch manhunt for accomplices in Delta

The Police Command in Delta has arrested a member of a three-man robbery syndicate and recovered firearms from him in the state.

The command’s Spokesman, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this on Wednesday in Warri.

Edafe said the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday by the operatives of the Ebrumede Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the police team was conducting an intensive stop-and-search operation on Garki-Uti Road, Effurun, when it intercepted three suspected armed robbers.

Edafe said that two of the suspects escaped on a motorcycle during interrogation, adding that the police

had launched a coordinated manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The police spokesman said that the suspects’ bag was subjected to a thorough search by the police team which led to the recovery of some exhibits.

Edafe said: “Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two locally made double-barrel guns, 11 live cartridges, one expended cartridge, one axe, two Android phones.

“Others are two power banks, two wristwatches, one lighter and one camouflage military polo”.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were transporting the exhibits to their hideout in Sapele Road.

He said that the arrested suspect was currently in police custody, while efforts were on course to arrest other members of the criminal gang.
