Police arrest 52-year-old suspected drug baron, three apprentices in Delta
A major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking has been recorded in Delta State, where police officers in Ughelli apprehended a 52-year-old woman, Mrs Egbule Isioma, suspected of running a drug distribution network. She was arrested alongside three of her apprentices during a targeted operation on alleged criminal hideouts within the Afiesere community.
The operation, carried out on 29 August, was triggered by actionable intelligence linking Isioma, who operates a chemist shop directly opposite the Afiesere Town Hall, to the illicit trade of controlled substances in Ughelli and surrounding communities.
Also taken into custody during the raid were her apprentices, identified as Mercy John, Favour John, and Amarachi Ngozi.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Warri on Tuesday. According to Edafe, the police acted on intelligence by tracking Isioma and executing a search warrant at her residence, located at No. 31 Edile Street, Afiesere.
During the search, officers uncovered a substantial cache of illegal drugs, including: 355 bottles of CSC Codeine; 57 rolls of 50mg Tramadol capsules; 335 rolls of 100mg Tramadol capsules; 33 rolls of 200mg Super Royal; 7 units of Backwoods (a type of flavoured cigar often used for drug intake); 540 sachets of Swinol capsules; 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis.
Edafe stated that preliminary investigations had established Isioma’s central role in the illegal drug supply chain in Ughelli and nearby communities. The raid, he noted, followed a period of surveillance, and the arrest marks a significant step in disrupting the distribution of narcotics in the area.
All four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to trace and dismantle additional drug networks operating in Delta State.
