Police arraign man, 20, over alleged housebreaking

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 20-year-old man, Mafus Salawudeen, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly breaking into a residence and stealing items valued at one million naira.
Salawudeen, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and housebreaking, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 12, between 7.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m., at the Akingbade area of Ibadan.
Lawal alleged that the defendant and others still at large broke into the house of one Mrs Olubunmi Beleyeke.
According to him, the defendant stole phones, a radio, clothes, shoes, N20,000 in cash and other valuables, all valued at N1,050,000, belonging to Beleyeke.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 412 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 4 for hearing.
