President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Mohammed Dorro, during a three-hour interactive session between the President and a 32-man delegation of Plateau stakeholders at the State House on Tuesday.
The financial intervention serves as a cornerstone of the President’s broader strategy to restore stability to the state. Addressing a diverse group of leaders including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, former governors, traditional rulers, and religious heads.
Speaking, President Tinubu emphasized that while financial aid is necessary for immediate relief, the permanent solution to the recurring conflict and chaos lies in the hands of the local leadership.
He challenged the delegation to move beyond protocols and return home with a sincere commitment to tolerance and a resolution to implement past government White Papers on security.
Beyond the immediate relief fund, the discussions delved into the root causes of the unrest, with participants identifying indigeneship, religion, ethnicity, and farmer-herder clashes as the primary drivers of instability.
The President urged Governor Mutfwang to foster an administration built on justice and integration, specifically tasking him to identify and name agent provocateurs so they can face the full wrath of the law.
He noted that the cycle of creating orphans and widows must end to allow for the state’s promised infrastructural development.
Traditional and community leaders at the session praised the President’s purposeful leadership and the First Lady’s recent humanitarian visits to the state.
The Gbong Gwon Jos, HRM Da Jacob Gyang Buba, and other stakeholders also used the platform to advocate for the deployment of more troops, the installation of CCTV infrastructure, and the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes as the rainy season begins.
Also speaking, Governor Mutfwang pledged his administration’s resolve to build on this renewed spirit of unity, vowing that the state’s leadership would work collectively to turn the current climate of conflict into a future of economic profit and peace.
