The Nigerian Army has commenced a full-scale investigation into the death of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Abdulsamad Jamiu, as military authorities move to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.

Jamiu was killed in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory, during a security response operation by troops of the Guards Brigade.

In a renewed push for transparency, a military police investigative team has now been deployed to engage directly with the scene and key witnesses.

According to sources familiar with the process, the team has begun conducting structured interrogations involving members of the deceased’s family, neighbours, and local vigilante operatives.

The development signals what authorities describe as a deliberate and thorough fact-finding process, aimed at establishing a clear and verifiable account of events leading to the young corps member’s death.

While the Nigerian Army had earlier indicated that Jamiu was caught in a crossfire during a gun battle with suspected robbers, the ongoing investigation is expected to critically examine all claims, including concerns raised by the family regarding the exact circumstances of the shooting.

Military sources maintain that the investigative process will be comprehensive, with assurances that no relevant detail will be overlooked.

The involvement of the military police, an internal but specialized investigative arm, is seen as a step toward strengthening credibility and ensuring procedural discipline.

“The objective is to establish the truth and uphold justice,” a source close to the investigation noted, adding that findings will guide any necessary disciplinary or legal actions.

The Army has also reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability, acknowledging the gravity of the incident and the public interest it has generated.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has welcomed the development, expressing cautious optimism that the investigation will bring clarity and justice.

They have continued to call for a transparent process, insisting that the outcome must reflect the truth of what transpired.

The case has drawn widespread attention across the country, with civil society organisations and concerned citizens closely monitoring developments and urging the authorities to ensure that the process is not only thorough but also credible in the eyes of the public.

As investigations progress, security analysts note that the handling of the case will serve as a significant test of institutional accountability within Nigeria’s security framework.

For now, the focus remains on the ongoing probe, with expectations high that the process will deliver answers, and ultimately, justice, in the death of Abdulsamad Jamiu.
