Plateau Gov praises Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership, backs Northern unity, security agenda

The Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has lauded the leadership of Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, describing his stewardship as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) as purposeful, visionary and results-driven.

Mutfwang made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Governor Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe on Sunday, where he emphasised that security across Northern Nigeria remains a top priority for the Forum and a personal commitment of the Gombe State Governor.

He particularly commended Inuwa Yahaya for initiating the establishment of a permanent Secretariat for the Northern Governors’ Forum, describing the move as an unprecedented step towards improved coordination, institutional strength and effective policy implementation among Northern states.

According to the Plateau governor, the Secretariat is expected to become operational by the first quarter of 2026, adding that it would significantly enhance collaboration and collective response to challenges confronting the region.

Mutfwang also disclosed that resolutions reached at the recent Northern Governors’ meeting in Kaduna were already being actively pursued, expressing optimism that sustained cooperation among governors would yield measurable improvements in regional security.

Reacting to speculations about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Plateau State Governor declined to give a definitive response, saying with a smile, “As soon as it happens, you will hear it.”

Earlier, Governor Inuwa Yahaya welcomed his Plateau counterpart and described the visit as a symbol of unity and shared commitment among Northern leaders.

He expressed appreciation for Governor Mutfwang’s support within the Northern Governors’ Forum and reaffirmed his resolve to work collectively to address the region’s common challenges.

The Plateau State Governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daniel Naanlong Gapyil, and other senior government officials.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya was joined by his Deputy, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Luggerewo, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Saddam Bello, former federal lawmakers, commissioners and other top government officials.
