The Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Omolola Oloworaran chaired the commissioning of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners’ Legacy House in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) commitment to advancing the welfare and dignity of pensioners across Nigeria.

The Legacy House was commissioned by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of retirees and announced a ₦100 million donation to support the activities of the union. The event brought together key stakeholders from government, organised labour, and the pension industry.

In her remarks, the PenCom Director General commended the initiative, describing the Legacy House as a symbol of the enduring contributions of Nigerian pensioners and the importance of strengthening institutions that safeguard retirees’ welfare.

She highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing pension reforms under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the settlement of longstanding pension liabilities, increased monthly pension payments, improved retirement benefit administration, stronger enforcement of pension compliance, and initiatives to expand pension coverage and strengthen retirement security.
