...Saraki condemns killing, demands urgent security action

Tragedy struck in Lile community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday night as unknown gunmen attacked the residence of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Lade Ward One, killing him and his son.

Sources said the assailants invaded the home under the cover of darkness and opened fire, killing both victims on the spot. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but the incident has sent shockwaves through the local political community.

Reacting to the development, former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, issued a statement on Wednesday from Ilorin, condemning the killing in strong terms and describing it as barbaric, painful and unacceptable.

“This is a devastating loss. I am heartbroken by the news of the gruesome killing of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun and his son. My thoughts and prayers are with their immediate family and the Patigi community in this difficult time,” Saraki said.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, calling for swift justice and an end to unchecked violence in the state.

Saraki also urged the Kwara State Government and security agencies to act swiftly to restore confidence among residents and stop further killings.

“This rising tide of insecurity in our dear state must not be allowed to continue. Government and security agencies must act swiftly and decisively to prevent further tragedies,” he added.

As of press time, police authorities had not issued an official statement, though local sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing and a manhunt has been launched to track down the perpetrators.
