NDLEA seizes 4 tonnes of illicit drugs, arrests 583 suspects in Adamawa

...225 offenders convicted, N1.2m crime proceeds forfeited
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Adamawa State has announced the seizure of four tonnes of assorted illicit drugs and the arrest of 583 suspects between June 2024 and June 2025.
The State Commander, Mr Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press conference in Yola, held in commemoration of the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Abubakar said the agency also secured the conviction of 225 drug offenders, who were sentenced to various prison terms, while ₦1,213,875—proceeds from drug-related crimes—was forfeited to the Federal Government and paid into the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
He further revealed that over 53 drug dependents, comprising 51 males and 2 females, were successfully treated and rehabilitated during the period under review.
As part of its preventive strategy, the NDLEA has introduced a community-focused initiative called “Prevention Ambassadors,” aimed at training 1,000 secondary school teachers and other stakeholders to combat drug abuse from the grassroots.
“This is done through the establishment of drug prevention desks across all secondary schools in the state,” Abubakar stated.
This year’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,” underscores the agency’s renewed commitment to addressing drug abuse not just as a health crisis but as a national security threat.
Abubakar reaffirmed the NDLEA’s resolve to “break the cycle” of drug addiction and trafficking by prioritising early intervention, community engagement, and long-term rehabilitation.
