The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that its National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, will go ahead as planned despite two separate court orders restraining the party from holding the event.
In a statement on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who also serves as Secretary of the Publicity and Communication Sub-Committee of the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), said preparations for the convention were ongoing.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee of the PDP inform all party members and the general public that the convention has not been postponed. It will hold as scheduled on Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” the statement read.
Ologunagba alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was behind efforts to halt the PDP’s convention, describing the moves as part of a plot “to destabilise the opposition and impose a one-party state in Nigeria.” He warned that such attempts would be lawfully resisted.
The party also assured members and delegates that all arrangements for the convention were on course and thanked those who had already arrived in Ibadan ahead of the event.
“While thanking Nigerians for their overwhelming support, the NCOC welcomes all delegates, party leaders, officials, and supporters who have begun arriving in Ibadan for the National Convention,” the statement added.
This comes after the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the PDP to suspend the convention pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.
