Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday presented a N705 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Osun State House of Assembly.
Tagged the Budget of Economic Transformation, the proposal allocates 55 percent to capital expenditure and 45 percent to recurrent expenditure. Adeleke said the budget builds on the achievements of the past three years and reflects the state’s continued economic progress following the implementation of the 2025 budget.
According to him, the total revenue comprises N221.68 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), N199.57 billion in internally generated revenue, and ₦268.35 billion from other receipts, bringing the total estimate to N705 billion.
He explained that the recurrent expenditure of N317.41 billion includes N135 billion for personnel costs and N182.4 billion for overheads, covering salaries, allowances, pensions, and gratuities. The capital expenditure of ₦388.38 billion, he added, represents 55 percent of the total spending plan.
“The 2026 budget proposal is anchored on the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), as stipulated by the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law 2012,” Adeleke noted.
Highlighting progress under his administration, the governor said infrastructure development had significantly improved, with over 300 kilometres of roads constructed across the three senatorial districts and several flyovers completed to ease traffic congestion.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, adding that the government would continue to ensure prompt payment of salaries and pensions.
In the health sector, Adeleke cited the Imole Medical and Surgical Outreach across all six federal constituencies and the launch of the Imole Youth Corps Scheme, which engaged 10,000 youths to tackle unemployment.
He also expressed appreciation to philanthropist Folorunso Alakija for donating a Medical Research and Training Hospital to the state, noting that the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital had undergone major infrastructural and technological upgrades.
Welcoming the governor, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, commended Adeleke for his transparency, prudence, and accountability in managing state resources.
Egbedun lauded the positive outcomes of the 2024 and 2025 budgets, noting visible improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and workers’ welfare.
He assured that the Assembly would diligently scrutinize the 2026 proposal to ensure that every allocation serves the public interest and supports sustainable development.
