…Says era of uncertainty is over
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership faction backed by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has urged defectors to return to the fold, maintaining that with the resolution of internal crises and the reclaiming of the National Secretariat, the party is now a stabilized and legitimate platform ready to drive the nation’s political future toward 2027.
This is as the Minister extended an olive branch to former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that many who departed did so due to administrative instability rather than disloyalty.
This move comes as the party’s leadership declared its internal crisis resolved and shifted its focus toward 2027.
During the 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday, the PDP bloc loyal to the minister maintained that the party has moved past its recent friction.
The leadership emphasized that the party’s structure has been fully restored, with a new focus on reconciliation, trust-building, and early preparations for the next general elections.
The meeting featured addresses from Wike; National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara; Board of Trustees Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa; and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, with discussions primarily centering on achieving unity and refining the party’s electoral strategy.
Wike stated that the fact that the meeting was held at the National Secretariat serves as proof of the leadership’s authenticity and legitimacy.
He urged the party’s executive to re-engage members who had defected, explaining that their exit was likely driven by the chaos that previously plagued the party.
Wike also noted that many defected because of uncertainty, adding that a candidate unsure of who has the authority to certify documents for INEC would naturally seek stability elsewhere.
He believe that if the party reaches out to them now, they will reconsider and return, while also reaffirming his own lifelong allegiance to the PDP since 1998.
Earlier, the Factional PDPChairman, Takushara announced that the PDP period of internal strife has officially concluded, marking the beginning of an era defined by strategy, consolidation, and electoral readiness.
He noted that the party is now strictly aligned with constitutional provisions, the Electoral Act, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, promising transparent and inclusive primaries to strengthen internal democratic processes.
He also acknowledged the role of security agencies in protecting party assets during the crisis.
In the same vein, the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa echoed the call for cohesion, stating that the party must prioritize inclusion over exclusion and strictly follow the party’s constitution.
He highlighted ongoing reforms, such as electronic membership registration, designed to improve transparency and modernize the party’s structure.
In its official communiqué, the NEC commended the National Working Committee for stabilizing the party and reaffirmed that internal issues will now be settled through dialogue and established party structures.
The committee gave its full endorsement of electronic registration to enhance grassroots participation and adopted a formal timetable for party primaries in accordance with INEC guidelines.
The NEC also called for all members to maintain discipline and prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal ambitions to ensure a formidable front for the 2027 elections.
