Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The endorsement was announced on Monday during a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode. The gathering brought together a broad spectrum of party leaders, grassroots representatives, and political officeholders from across the district.

Those present included members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, serving and former local government chairmen, councillors from all wards, and past and present lawmakers at both state and national levels. Youth and women leaders were also in attendance, underscoring the wide support base for the endorsement.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, former senator Lekan Mustapha said the decision was based on a shared belief in the governor’s capacity to effectively represent Ogun East at the National Assembly.

He disclosed that party leaders would formally convey the endorsement to the governor and back it with the purchase of his nomination forms ahead of the 2027 polls.

“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha said, describing Abiodun as a leader with strong character and sound intellect.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as both historic and unanimous, noting that the governor’s track record in governance and party unity made him well suited for the Senate.

Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives, Femi Ogunbanwo, said the governor’s administration had brought peace and development to the state, expressing confidence that he would deliver greater benefits to Ogun East at the national level.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, commended the governor’s performance and urged him to accept the senatorial bid.

The meeting witnessed participation from all 103 councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, alongside key grassroots mobilisers and party executives.

Prominent figures at the event included former senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and several party elders and stakeholders.

Members of the House of Representatives from the district, including Adesola Elegbeji and Joseph Adegbesan, also attended, signaling broad-based support for Governor Abiodun’s anticipated senatorial ambition.
