PDP is working to present Goodluck Jonathan as presidential candidate – Reps Minority leader

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is actively preparing former President Goodluck Jonathan to serve as its 2027 presidential candidate, according to the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Monday, August 3, 2026, Agbedi explained that a political party aiming to deliver real development does not wait for aspirants to announce their ambitions.
Instead, it actively scouts for proven leaders capable of winning elections and managing the country.
“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a precious candidate.”
“In a society that desires to develop and grow, you don’t wait for someone to just come and tell you, ‘I want to be president’; you scout for a good candidate who can bring the dividends of democracy, enforce the rule of law, and win an election for you,” he said.
The Bayelsa lawmaker emphasized that Jonathan’s stature as a former elected president, coupled with his global diplomatic work since leaving office, gives him unmatched experience.
Agbedi added that Nigerians across political lines are eager for Jonathan’s return following years of economic and governance challenges under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“President Goodluck Jonathan is desired by Nigerians, not only by our party. Nigerians have started realizing that from the point they voted him out and brought in the APC, the country has gone down completely,” he added.
Addressing the legal disputes surrounding the PDP’s leadership and its non-recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Agbedi assured party faithful that the Interim National Working Committee is pursuing all legal options to validate its standing.
He expressed confidence that the courts will resolve the issue in favor of the party, paving the way to formally present Jonathan to the Nigerian public ahead of 2027.
