… Damagum officially hands over PDP leadership to Turaki-Led NWC
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Taminu Turaki, has issued certificates of expulsion to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and other members recently expelled by the party.
Turaki stated this while addressing journalists at the PDP headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Recall that the party had unanimously expelled Wike, and a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, from the party, for anti-party activities.
It also expelled the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others, and dissolved party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
These expulsions stem from resolutions made at the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15 November 2025.
Speaking to journalists after a three-hour meeting, Turaki explained that the certificates of expulsion will serve as formal proof for the expelled members to join other political parties without risk of dual membership accusations.
“When they register with other political parties in Nigeria, these certificates will confirm they are no longer PDP members,” Turaki said.
Also, Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Illiya Damagum, on Tuesday formally handed over leadership of the party to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The ceremony took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja and was attended by former members of the previous NWC.
The handover comes as the tenure of the outgoing NWC concludes on December 8, amid ongoing legal disputes with the faction led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Damagum urged the new leadership to use their experience to strengthen the party.
“The Turaki leadership emerges at a challenging time, but with perseverance and faith, the party will continue to overcome obstacles,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the future of the PDP, describing it as “still the party to beat” and assured that those causing internal crises would eventually face the consequences of their actions.
Turaki, in his remarks, commended the outgoing NWC for their efforts and pledged to work diligently to advance the party’s objectives.
