‘Litany of lies will not stop our 2026 victory’ – Omisore Camp hits back

The Director-General of the Senator Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation, Hon Ajibola Famurewa, has dismissed reports suggesting that Omisore ignored the counsel of All Progressives Congress (APC) elders and the party leadership in his decision to enter the 2026 Osun governorship race.
In a statement signed by Famurewa on Tuesday, the campaign organisation said the attacks on the former Deputy Governor were being sponsored by “fifth columnists” unsettled by Omisore’s increasing acceptance within the party.
The statement reads partly: “Our attention has been drawn to one of the recently spread jaundiced write ups being sponsored by fifth columnists and members of the opposition twisting pedigree, devotion, commitment, passion and fellowship of His Excellency, Senator Iyiola Omisore as he becomes the favourite of his beloved party, the All Progressives Congress, to win the 2026 governorship election ticket in Osun State.
“We are not surprised that the pedigree, popularity, experience and reputation of Senator Omisore have traumatised those being sponsored to have a shot at the gubernatorial election and most especially those who are on the crest of zonal chauvinism, the consequences of which will be incompetence and poor governance; may God forbid.
“The issues being played up have been as poor as the poor understanding of democratic process, the general denominator of which has always been egalitarianism.
“For the avoidance of doubt and without sounding incorrect, the rave of the moment, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has not run foul of any institutional prescription associated with a governorship race known to practice and law in Nigeria.”
Famurewa stated that Omisore remains an active and respected member of the APC Elders’ Forum, known as Agba Osun, and had never defied its internal traditions.
He said the governorship hopeful purchased his nomination forms within two hours of the commencement of sales, while the elders’ advisory statement emerged 48 hours later.
He argued that it would be “impossible and illogical to abort what had already been concluded”, insisting that Omisore had not breached any party procedure.
The DG also criticised allegations suggesting rifts between Omisore and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing such claims as “idle gossip” lacking credibility. According to him, any meeting between the two political figures “would not be leaked by people who cannot differentiate between assertions and hearsay”.
Famurewa faulted attempts to drag traditional institutions into what he described as “petty political mischief”, adding that Omisore’s role in the APC’s 2023 presidential campaign had been publicly acknowledged by the President during his inaugural address.
He said the smear campaigns were being orchestrated to distract party members from recognising Omisore’s contributions and his capacity to lead the state.
Citing recent comments by Professor Mojeed Alabi, a notable member of the elders’ forum, Famurewa stressed that Agba Osun had never zoned the 2026 ticket exclusively to the West Senatorial District.
He urged those sponsoring discord within the party to desist, warning that internal sabotage could jeopardise the APC’s chances of defeating Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026.
