No fewer than 2,577 civil servants in Kwara State are set to benefit from the 2026 promotion exercise following the completion of oral interviews by the State Civil Service Commission.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Hajia Habeebah Yusuf, in Ilorin while speaking with our correspondent on the sidelines of the exercise.
Yusuf described the exercise as a rare opportunity for workers to improve their service delivery, pointing out that it covered eligible officers across ministries, departments, and agencies under the mainstream state civil service.
She said the performance of the participating civil servants was commendable, noting that the rate of non-performance was negligible, representing about 0.05% of the total number of candidates who sat for both the written and oral examinations.
The Chairman noted that officers who failed would be given another opportunity to resit the examination in 2027, stressing that their number was very small compared to the total pool of candidates.
Yusuf attributed the consistent promotion of civil servants in the state to the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration toward improving workers’ welfare.
Commenting on political interference in the conduct of the exercise, the chairman emphasized that it was not politically motivated and remained entirely merit-based.
She recalled that the commission had inherited promotion arrears from 2019, while the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the process in 2020.
She stressed, however, that the backlog had since been cleared, with promotions now up to date for the 2025 and 2026 exercises.
Yusuf said the commission was currently collating the results and would proceed with financial costing and obtain government approval before implementation.
She assured that the service commission would sustain regular promotion exercises, urging workers to remain committed, loyal, and dedicated to effective service delivery, as their welfare remains paramount to the state government.
