Our database not breached — NIMC declares

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has dismissed claims alleging a breach of the National Identification Number (NIN) database.

In a statement on Wednesday, the commission clarified that the circulating video is a recycled and previously disclaimed story from 2024.

Reaffirming the security of the National Identity Database (NIDB), the Commission emphasized that its multi-layered security infrastructure remains uncompromised and fully compliant with international best practices.

To bolster data privacy and user autonomy, NIMC revealed that it recently introduced NIN Authentication (NINAuth), a secure suite of verification services requiring explicit user consent before data sharing.

Operating in strict alignment with the newly enacted NIMC Act of 2026 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023, NIMC continues to urge the public to ignore unverified information and rely exclusively on its official communication channels.
