Telecom Operators deploy 8,526 new sites nationwide, hit 70% target — NCC reveals

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) across Nigeria have deployed 8,526 new coverage and capacity sites nationwide, reaching approximately 70 percent of their committed rollout obligations, the Nigerian Communications Commission announced on Sunday.

The operational milestone was disclosed in an official communiqué issued by the NCC following its 110th Board Meeting in Abuja.

In the communique made available by the Director of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the document highlights accelerated progress compared to the commission’s 109th meeting, when operators had recorded roughly 5,000 deployments toward an industry-wide commitment of 12,179 sites.

The ongoing expansion is designed to broaden network reach, bolster capacity, and elevate consumer Quality of Experience across the country.

However, the regulatory board stressed that structural vulnerabilities continue to undercut these physical infrastructure gains. A sharp rise in service disruptions was logged in June, primarily triggered by frequent fibre optic cable cuts.

In light of these persistent outages, the NCC board emphasized that capacity expansion must be paired with stringent safeguards for critical national communications infrastructure to ensure network resilience and sustained service reliability for consumers.
