Osun Assembly warns residents against indiscriminate refuse dumping

The Osun State House of Assembly has cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads, road medians, and other unauthorized locations across the state.

The issue was raised during the House’s executive session, where lawmakers expressed concern over the environmental and public health implications of improper waste disposal.

According to a statement on Tuesday signed by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker urged residents to desist from dumping refuse on roads and medians, stressing that the government would no longer tolerate acts of environmental lawlessness.

He said the state government would take more serious action against individuals who violate environmental regulations.

Egbedun also called on the Ministry of Environment to intensify public enlightenment and sensitization campaigns across the state.

The Speaker also urged the Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies to ensure the regular evacuation of refuse from designated collection points to prevent waste accumulation and discourage residents from resorting to unauthorized dumping, while calling on citizens to properly dispose of their waste and comply with environmental laws.

The House also reaffirmed its commitment to the effective oversight of relevant government agencies to ensure that environmental sanitation receives adequate attention across the state.
