Kwara Fire Service recovers dead body of 52yr old man from well

Operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday recovered the dead body of a 52-year-old man from inside a domestic well in the Asa Dam area of Ilorin, the state capital.

The service responded to an emergency at the Lamp Bearers Islamic School, off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, following a report of a man found inside a domestic well.

This was made known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin by the public relations officer of the service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who said the service received a distress call around 08:42 hours.

Adekunle stated that on arrival at the scene, firefighters commenced a recovery operation and successfully recovered the body of the deceased, identified as Alaba Ayeni, aged 52.

According to information gathered during the operation, children in the community discovered that the man was inside the domestic well and immediately reported the situation to elders in the vicinity, as the location was close to the deceased’s residence.

He added that the deceased was handed over to the Divisional Police Officer at the Budo-Nuhu Police Station for further necessary action.

The State Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed concern over the incident and urged residents to ensure that domestic wells and other open water sources within residential areas are properly secured and covered to prevent accidents.

He advised parents, guardians, and community leaders to ensure that children are not allowed to move around near wells, drainage channels, and other potentially hazardous areas.

The service commiserated with the family and community over the unfortunate incident and remains committed to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the state, the statement added.
