Osun APC youths differ over zoning agitation for governorship ticket
The youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, have disagreed over the zoning agitation of the party’s governorship ticket to Osun West Senatorial districts.
It would recalled that the APC had scheduled its primary for 2026 governorship election to December 13, 2025 Osun State.
Some of the party’s youth leaders in Olaoluwa, Irepodun, Isokan, Ede North, Ede South, and Ayedire local government areas of the state, appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola to ensure that the party fields the best candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.
Speaking, the APC youth leaders in Isokan Local Government Area over the weekend in Osogbo said the APC needs the best candidate to emerge victorious in the 2026 gubernatorial election rather than relying on zoning.
Raji Rafiu, one of the leaders expressed dissatisfaction over an advertorial in a newspaper indicating that some youth leaders agitated for zoning the governorship ticket to Osun West Senatorial district, saying the party needs a candidate who can defeat the incumbent Governor.
He said, “I saw my signature, I called my lawyer and some of our members, I was at home not in Iwo but my name was in the paper still, all we need in the APC is the best not the west. I urge President Tinubu, Akande, and Oyetola to ensure that the party fields the best candidate.”
However, a chieftain of the APC in Olaoluwa Local Government Area, Hon. Amos Adediran Amindiya, said the three Senatorial districts comprise Osun State, not Osun West alone.
Amindiya said, “it is not the west that consist of the whole Osun State, we have Osun West, Osun East and Osun Central, it would be recalled that in 2018, I was among the first set of people that agitated for the best candidate and those that have been the Governor in Osun State are the best produced at that time, Governor Oyetola was the best at that time.”
“It would be recalled that the Osun West has produced a governor 2 times, the central 3 times while the Osun easy only produced a governor once.”
“So now we are looking for who is the best among the party aspirants, if the party feels the best is from the west then let it be but so far what we are saying is that the best should be given to us in Osun State.”
Reacting to allegations of Osun youth leaders agitating for zoning, Osun West Senatorial youth leader, Imran Mojeed said that aspirants from the Osun West Senatorial district are not afraid of any democratic process for the APC primaries.
Mojeed disclosed they did not agitated for any particular candidate from the west senetotial district rather, but made it know to the president that Osun West have capable hands in the district.
According to him, “We are not afraid of any democratic process for APC primaries, we only feel it necessary for the youth to lay there voice to that we want the gubernatorial ticket from the west for justice in the progressive family.”
