A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, to resist intimidation and undue pressure from politicians as he begins his tenure.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye advised the INEC boss to uphold courage, integrity, and adherence to the Commission’s rules and regulations, especially ahead of the forthcoming off cycle and general elections.
He cautioned Amupitan against yielding to harassment or blackmail from opposition parties seeking to discredit credible electoral processes, stressing that Nigerians are counting on him to safeguard the Commission’s integrity.
“All eyes are on the new INEC boss. He must stay focused and resist any pressure that could undermine the credibility of elections. Those who lose will always attempt to delegitimise the process for their personal gain,” Oyintiloye said.
The former lawmaker, who served in the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Amupitan, describing him as a man of integrity capable of sanitising Nigeria’s electoral system.
He noted that the forthcoming Anambra governorship election and the 2026 gubernatorial polls in Ekiti and Osun would serve as litmus tests for the new INEC chairman’s leadership.
While congratulating Amupitan on his appointment, Oyintiloye reaffirmed that Nigerians expect him to protect the independence and credibility of the electoral body.
