Osun APC directs members to stay off LG Secretariats

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep condolences to the family, political associates, and supporters of Honourable Remi Abass, the purported chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was allegedly killed by political hoodlums suspected to be affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikire on Monday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, described the sudden and brutal killing of Abass as inhuman, wicked, and callous. He lamented the loss of a peace-loving and dedicated politician, condemning the act as a grave attack on democracy in the state.
Lawal directed all local government chairmen and councillors under the APC to stay away from their respective council secretariats as a mark of respect for their fallen colleague until further notice. He assured them that the party would not allow the murder of Abass to be in vain.
He also commended the local government chairmen for acting in line with the Court of Appeal judgment delivered the previous Monday, which had affirmed their positions in office.
The APC chairman called on the police and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the murder, track down the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. He insisted that the killers and their sponsors must be identified and prosecuted, stating, “They could not have come from the moon.”
Lawal extended his heartfelt sympathy to the family members, political associates, and all progressives in Ikire, mourning the senseless and gruesome killing of Abass. He reassured the party faithful that the leadership of the APC would take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served.
He urged members of the APC to remain resolute and committed to the realisation of the party’s collective aspirations, stressing that the best way to honour the late Abass was to stay united and steadfast in the party’s struggle.
“May Almighty Allah grant our amiable local government chairman eternal rest and forgive his shortcomings,” Lawal prayed.
Meanwhile, Honourable Remi Abass was laid to rest according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area.
