Osun ALGON demands justice for murdered Irewole LG Chairman

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has issued a call for the diligent prosecution of those responsible for the brutal assassination of the former Chairman of Irewole Local Government, Hon. Remi Abass.
The demand comes exactly one year after the tragic event that shook the state’s political landscape.
On February 17, 2025, the very day Council Chairmen and Councillors across Osun’s 30 Local Government Areas officially resumed office following their reinstatement by the Akure Court of Appeal, Hon. Abass was gruesomely murdered.
In a statement signed by the State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, the forum expressed profound grief over the untimely and irreplaceable loss.
Abiodun emphasized that the passage of time has not diminished the organization’s resolve to see the culprits brought to book.
“We will spare no effort in ensuring that justice is served. The memory of Hon. Abass deserves nothing less than the full weight of the law falling upon those who orchestrated this heinous act,” Abiodun stated.
Beyond the call for justice, the ALGON Chairman used the somber anniversary to offer condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and political associates, praying for the repose of his soul in Aljanah Fridaos.
Abiodun also reaffirmed the collective commitment of the state’s council leaders to the vision Hon. Abass shared: transformative grassroots governance.
He assured residents that high-impact infrastructure and social projects are set to commence across all councils.
The statement concluded with a plea for peace and a reminder that the safety of public officials is paramount to maintaining a functional and fearless local government system.
