As the August 8 governorship election approaches, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to the democratic process, declaring that he remains fully submissive to the will of the electorate.

Governor Adeleke made these remarks while hosting members of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, led by their Chairman, Hon. Bamidele Salam, at the Government House in Osogbo on Monday.

The Governor used the occasion to outline his administration’s performance since 2022 and to emphasize that he will soon formally seek a mandate for a second term.

“As a democrat, I am forever willing and submissive to the will of the Osun people,” Governor Adeleke stated. “I have served them since 2022, and I will soon go back to them to seek their support for a second term. I strongly believe I already have the nod of my people based on our performance and our inclusive approach to governance.”

Reflecting on his administration’s tenure, the Governor highlighted the completion of several projects abandoned by previous governments and the initiation of new infrastructure, health, education, and economic programs.

He credited his policy of prioritizing local content, engaging Osun contractors, suppliers, and labor, for stimulating the state’s economy and reducing capital flight.

Addressing the broader political climate, the Governor emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, describing them as the essential foundation for democratic stability in Nigeria.

“We must submit to the people; the people are the owners of state power. It was only delegated to us, the elected officials,” the Governor said. “A credible election is not optional but a compulsory process to safeguard the democratic system. For us in Osun State, this election is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world.”

During the visit, the House of Representatives delegation commended the Governor’s administration for its transparency and progress.

Hon. Jeremiah Umar, Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, praised the Governor for turning Osun into a hub of infrastructure and economic activity, noting that the administration’s achievements in less than four years have set a high benchmark for governance in the state.
