…reaffirms commitment to education, technology

In a bold demonstration of its commitment to education, technology, and youth empowerment, Opay Nigeria has announced a N1.2 billion scholarship scheme targeted at supporting students across tertiary institutions in the country.

The Empowering futures Conference 2025, held in Lagos, where over 420 students from more than 20 institutions were celebrated as beneficiaries.

The event, which is a 10 year scholarship initiative ,” highlighted Opay’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) focus on education as a tool for national development.

Speaking at the event, Itoro Udom, Opay’s CSR Manager, described the initiative as “a moment of reflection and gratitude,” emphasizing that the scholarship embodies the company’s belief in creating equal opportunities through education.

“Every spark of light we ignite in someone’s life shines even brighter when supported by technology and opportunity,” Udoma said.

Also speaking, Elizabeth Wang, Executive Director of Opay, reiterated the company’s long-term vision to invest in education as part of its drive to create social value and technological advancement in Nigeria.

“We believe in the future, and that’s why Opay does more in education. We have signed a 10 year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several institutions to sustain this vision. Our passion for CSR goes beyond donations it’s about sacrifice, commitment, and building a solid technological future for young Nigerians,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdulahi Ajoke, a graduate of Kwara Polytechnic, shared her testimony of how the Opay scholarship transformed her academic journey.

“Opay boosted my confidence and inspired me to become the best graduating student in my department of Mathematics and Statistics,” she said proudly.

While speaking, the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Professor Adebayo S. Banire described the Opay initiative as laudable and impactful, particularly for students from low income backgrounds. He noted that the programme has boosted the optimism and future prospects of many young Nigerians, describing it as a truly futuristic empowerment initiative that aligns with the nation’s drive for educational advancement.
