Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Photography, Mr Abayomi Samson Adefolalu, on Saturday rescued accident victims abandoned along the Ilawe–Ado Ekiti Road.
The accident, which occurred around 2:45 p.m., involved an 18-seater bus with registration number Lagos AAA-260-YL, conveying 16 passengers, mostly students of Ajayi Crowther University, McPherson University and Kola Daisi University, Elizade University
Mr Adefolalu, who was on his way back to Akure after visiting his parents in Ilawe-Ekiti, came across the victims lying helplessly by the roadside and immediately offered assistance.
Eyewitnesses said the bus, while trying to dodge an oncoming vehicle, lost control and somersaulted, leaving several students and the driver injured.
The students were returning from the five-day 2025 LAWSAN Southwest Zonal Convention held in Ado-Ekiti and were heading back to their various institutions when the accident occurred.
The injured passengers, alongside the bus driver, were first rushed to Tayo Medical Hospital in Ilawe-Ekiti, where they received first aid treatment. They were later referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for comprehensive medical attention through Adefolalu’s intervention.
President of Ajayi Crowther University Law Students Society (ACULSS), Miss Boluwatife Onaara Shokunbi, commended the governor’s aide for his swift action, which she said prevented further casualties.
“We waved some vehicles down to come to our rescue, but none of them stopped until Mr Adefolalu came to our aid. He has proven to be a kindhearted Nigerian by displaying such a gesture.
“He even ensured that we were stabilised at the hospital,” she said.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikere Branch, and Human Rights Committee member, Mrs Iyanu Olumuwagun, expressed gratitude to God that help arrived before it was too late.
She also praised Mr Adefolalu for stepping in where other motorists failed, noting that his timely action ensured that no life was lost in the accident.
