Ojelabi urges APC unity ahead Lagos council polls

The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has urged outgoing Local government chairmen to ensure a smooth handover to after the polls.

He made the appeal during the APC Campaign Mega Rally for Lagos East Senatorial District at Government College, Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos, on Saturday.

Ojelabi said outgoing chairmen still have responsibilities and that their duties would only be fulfilled after a successful handover to APC successors.

“Your job is not done yet. It will only be done if you successfully hand over to an APC candidate.

“That is where your job is done. So, work as if you are contesting the election yourself,” Ojelabi stressed.

He urged them to fully support APC candidates, campaign actively, and ensure victory by going door-to-door with them.

He commended party leaders for reconciling aggrieved members, saying APC candidates would ride on Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s achievements to victory.

Ojelabi called for unity among members, urging those still aggrieved to set aside differences and work for the party’s success.

“I plead with those still upset — for the party’s sake, let us unite and work as one family,” he said.

He stressed that the task ahead extended beyond the local government elections, urging cooperation with leadership and candidates.

Ojelabi urged members to promote the party’s achievements, including those of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu and Sen. Tokunbo Abiru.

“You have many achievements to share — from the federal level to state efforts and National Assembly contributions,” he noted.

He outlined the campaign strategy, which includes daily one-on-one outreach, zonal engagement, and mobilisation of youths and women.

“We have decentralised efforts to reach the grassroots. We engage one-on-one daily and run zonal campaigns too,” he said.

Ojelabi urged market leaders, artisans, professionals, religious groups, and other stakeholders to vote for APC candidates at the polls.

He expressed confidence in APC’s chances, citing the party’s longstanding structure and deep grassroots presence in the state.

“I am confident no other political party in Lagos can defeat us. We’ve existed since 1999 with structures in all 376 wards,” Ojelabi said.

News Men report that the event was attended by APC chieftains, GAC members, lawmakers, and state executive council members.

Others present included local and ward executives, market associations, unions, ethnic groups, and devoted party loyalists.
