The people of Ohafia Udumeze in Abia State have thrown their full support behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s 2027 re-election ambition, declaring him the preferred choice to continue representing Abia North Senatorial District.
The endorsement was made public in a statement by Professor Kalu Eni, a respected academic and community voice, who said Kalu’s performance in the National Assembly has earned him the trust and loyalty of the Ohafia people.
According to Eni, the community remains proud of Kalu’s contributions—both as a former governor and as a serving senator—and rejects any external effort to undermine his support base. “Ohafia people are not betrayers. We won’t betray Senator Kalu the way others did. His achievements speak for themselves,” Eni said.
He added that Kalu’s influence extended beyond politics, crediting the senator’s past investments in education for shaping his own academic journey. “I became a professor today thanks to the educational foundation laid during Kalu’s time as governor,” he noted.
Eni dismissed political actors outside the Ohafia clan who, despite doing little for the area in the past, now seek to manipulate local sentiments for personal gain. He warned against attempts to use Ohafia’s name for political mischief, reaffirming the community’s solidarity.
“We won’t allow them to exploit our LGA to push any anti-Kalu agenda. Ohafia Udumeze is fully behind him,” he said.
He also emphasized that discussions around political changes in the local government should only begin after 2031, reinforcing the people’s current alignment with their elected representatives, including Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu and House of Representatives member Ibe Osonwa.
Eni’s statement was backed by several influential Ohafia leaders, who together vowed to uphold unity and reject any strategy aimed at sowing division within the community. “That era of manipulation and disunity is over. Ohafia stands united behind Senator Kalu,” he declared.
