Ogun Govt. mourns Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’, hails his legacy

The Ogun Government has expressed deep sadness over the death of veteran actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as ‘Ogogo’.

Mr Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, expressed the government’s condolences in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.

Akinmade described Hassan’s death as a monumental loss to Ogun, Nigeria’s creative industry and the nation at large.

He said the late actor was not only an accomplished artiste but also a shining light whose talent and commitment helped to promote Nigerian culture and the Yoruba heritage.

“Throughout his illustrious career, Taiwo Hassan distinguished himself through exceptional artistry, humility, candour, dignity and respect for others.

“He carried himself with uncommon grace and professionalism, earning the admiration of colleagues, fans and generations of Nigerians,” he said.

Akinmade said as an Ilaro-born indigene of Ogun, Hassan remained a proud ambassador of his roots throughout his career.

According to him, Hassan contributed immensely to the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage through theatre, film and television.

“He promoted the Yoruba language, tradition and values through his works, thereby projecting the richness of the culture to audiences in Nigeria and across the world,” he said.

The special adviser said the actor’s death had created a painful void that would be deeply felt by his family, the people of Ilaro and Ogun, as well as the creative industry.

He extended the government’s condolences to Hassan’s family, friends, colleagues, the people of Ilaro and his numerous fans across Nigeria and beyond.

“At this moment of grief, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived, the memories he created and the indelible legacy he leaves behind.

“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo, was a shining light. His voice may have fallen silent, but his works, values and contributions to our cultural heritage will continue to speak for generations.

“He will be sorely missed,” Akinmade said.

He prayed that Almighty God  grant eternal rest to Ogogo and give his family and other mourners the strength to bear the loss.

News men reports that Hassan died on Sunday at the age of 66 following a prolonged battle with cancer.
