The Ogun State Government has commenced the construction of smart classrooms in public secondary schools across the state.

Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, made this announcement at a news conference in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Arigbabu explained that the initiative aims to create an enhanced teaching and learning environment in the state. He also revealed that 12 mega classrooms would be built in four divisions of the state, each with a capacity of 900 students. This will help to reduce overcrowding in classrooms, particularly in the 42 flagship schools.

The smart classrooms will be built in 72 designated secondary schools, including the flagship schools, as part of the first phase of the project. These classrooms will be equipped with modern teaching aids.

Arigbabu assured that the government would continue to prioritise the welfare of teachers, noting that promotion arrears for both teaching and non-teaching staff had been cleared from 2016 to the present. He also mentioned that the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) model has been used to digitally transform and modernise the state’s education sector.
