A devastating fire engulfed a one-story building located at No. 28, Rufus Adekanmi Street, off Abimbola Estate in Ijoko, Ogun State, late Monday night, resulting in an estimated property loss of Ninety million naira (₦90,000,000).
The fire broke out at approximately 10:00 PM. on Monday, February 3rd, 2025. Eyewitnesses say the blaze originated from a laundry shop on the ground floor of the building, which had been left in the care of workers following the relocation of the property owners abroad.
“The fire spread quickly because of the chemicals stored in the laundry. It was terrifying,” said a resident who lives nearby.
According to reports, a concerned neighbor called the fire service at exactly 10:30 PM. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 11:30 PM and battled the inferno for several hours. The fire was eventually extinguished by 3:00 AM. Tuesday morning.

Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported, but nothing inside the building could be salvaged due to the intensity of the flames.
Efforts to contact the property owner since the incident have been unsuccessful. Community members are now appealing to the public for assistance in locating the landlord.
“This is a painful loss. We’re relieved that no one was hurt, but the damage is enormous,” said Mr. Akorede Makanjola, a local resident and eyewitness who compiled the official incident report.
Photos documenting the destruction have been attached to the report, and the Abimbola Community urges anyone with knowledge of the landlord’s whereabouts to come forward.
