Ogun Assembly calls for enhanced collaboration between NSCDC, local security outfits
The Ogun State House of Assembly has urged the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to strengthen its collaboration with local security outfits to ensure a more effective security network across the state.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda), made the call on Tuesday when the new NSCDC Commander for Ogun State, Remilekun Ekundayo, visited him in Abeokuta.
Elemide highlighted local security outfits, including the Amotekun Corps, So Safe Corps, Vigilante Service, and the Hunters Association, as key partners in the effort to enhance security in the state.
He explained that the collaboration would enable the NSCDC to fulfil its core mandate of securing critical national assets, including farmlands and infrastructure.
The Speaker assured Ekundayo that the Assembly would support the Corps in securing the necessary tools and resources through advocacy and legislative support.
Lawmakers at the session also called for the deployment of more NSCDC officers to rural areas, particularly to protect farmers and their farmlands.
They commended the NSCDC for establishing the Agro-Rangers Unit, aimed at protecting farmers and their land nationwide.
Ekundayo thanked the state legislature for its support in promoting peace and security in Ogun State. She reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to fulfilling its duties, including the protection of national assets, lives, and property.
She also mentioned the Corps’ creation of a Female Squad, which is tasked with guarding schools and safeguarding children from kidnappers, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
Ekundayo concluded by expressing gratitude for the continued support from the state government and requested further assistance to enhance the NSCDC’s effectiveness in securing the state.
