Leaders of the Ogun state All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus have officially named Senator Olamilekan Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The announcement was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun during the caucus meeting at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta.
The event was a rare display of party unity, bringing together all former governors of the state, including Chief Olusegun Osoba and Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
In a speech delivered to the gathered party faithful and leadership, Governor Abiodun expressed a deep personal and political satisfaction in the selection process.
He emphasized his desire to ensure a seamless transition of power to a successor who shares the party’s vision for the state.
“Nothing will give me more joy than to fulfill all the dreams of my office and ensure that: one, Ogun West produces a Governor; two, I sit down tonight before my departure from office, I actually sit down at a send-off that will be attended by my successor; and I also sit down proudly with all my former governors at the swearing-in of a new Governor of APC,” Abiodun remarked
Governor Abiodun concluded his remarks by formally presenting Senator Solomon to the caucus as the unified choice of the party’s leadership.
“On that note, permit me to unveil the person whom we all decided is truly deserving of being the next flagbearer of our dear state, the Distinguished Senator Yayi.”
The endorsement of Senator Solomon, who currently represents Ogun West, marks a historic milestone for the district, which has long sought to produce a state governor.
In his remarks, Former Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba urged members to remain patient and loyal, further underscored the party’s attempt to present a united front ahead of the 2026 polls.
While the announcement sets a clear direction for the APC, the inclusion of rival factions suggests a significant internal reconciliation aimed at securing the party’s continued dominance in Ogun State.
